From the hotel l'île du Grand Bé
The word "Bey" means "grave" in Celtic. Indeed, this rocky mound shelters the tomb of the famous writer from Saint-Malo, François-René de Chateaubriand. This uninhabited island is located a few hundred metres from Saint-Malo and is accessible on foot at low tide. Once you arrive on the island, you can see Chateaubriand's tomb where the writer seems to continue his conversation with the sea. But what you admire most of all is the magnificent location and the breathtaking view of the citadel and its surroundings.
This island facing the ocean is a real haven of peace, where you can listen to the sound of the wind and the sea. A spectacular site that guarantees a total change of scenery. To get there, check the tide tables beforehand. A few dozen metres away is the Petit Bé fort, this 17th century Vauban fort also offers an unforgettable view of the Emerald Coast.
