The hotel overlooks the Place des Frères Lamennais, which in the 1900s housed the Palais de Justice and then the Sous-Préfecture. The renovation of the building in 2017 marks a new chapter in the history of the square. The building was transformed to accommodate the Grand Bé hotel, but kept its charm thanks to the conservation of original parts such as the treasury chests which house the current luggage room or the vaults of the wellness area.

The elaborate architecture and authentic Malouin charm are revealed by the contemporary creel designed by interior architect Philippe Lucazeau. It overhangs the hall with its 90 curved and counter-curved metal and polyurethane members, its 8-metre diameter and its 12-metre height.
